Buchoro Memories : Remembering the Victims of Buchoro Massacre
The Refugee Law Project (RLP) joins hands with the rest of the country to commemorate Global Campaign of Activism to End Gender Based Violence Against Women. The 16 days of activism commenced on the 25th November and ends on the 10 December, 2013 that is also the International Human Rights Day all over the World. Local Stakeholders, Civil Society Organizations, Government, International Agencies and Donor Communities recognize this as a day to raise voices and concerns to end the continued perpetuation of Gender Based Violence commemorate this activism.
This year's theme is "From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let's Challenge Militarism and End Violence against Women".
As RLP, we have been working in communities that have been through conflict. As a result of our continued interaction with communities, we have been able to document the experiences of community members who experienced SGBV during the over two decades of insurgency in Northern Uganda between the Government of Uganda and the Lord's Resistance Army. The short film documents how women in one particular village were collected in the same location and systematically raped and experienced other forms of sexual violence and torture.
The documentary builds on RLP's on-going work on promoting issues of gender and sexuality for survivors of conflict related violence, and particularly the survivors who experienced sexual and gender based violence during the war and the implication of militarization that has continued to have negative implication on the communities as they continue to suffer from the consequences of violence. The short documentary is also meant to being to the attention of Practitioners, Politicians, Technocrats, Academicians and Governments the issues of sexual violence that continue to affect the women so that we can join the fight to end sexual violence against women.
