Administration

Dr Chris Dolan

Director - Chris joined the project in August 2006. With a background in issues of forced migration and conflict, he now has the ambitious task of transforming the RLP from a project into a fully-fledged institute and leader on justice and forced migration issues in East Africa and beyond.

Walter Richard Aliker

Head of Finance, Administration & Human Resources - Walter has worked with RLP since 2002 and with over 10 years experience in finance management & accounting, he ensures that RLP is kept financially sound.

Salima Namusobya

Grants Manager / Senior Legal Advisor - Salima is a lawyer by profession and hold an LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa. She joined the RLP in January 2005 and took over from Angela Nagaga as Head of Legal and Psychosocial Department in November 2005. She served as Head of Department until January 2010. She now serves as a Grants Manager / Senior Legal Advisor. She is also the team leader for the Durable Solutions Programme.

Grace Nakulira

Accounts Officer - Grace has kept stock of everything at RLP from fuel to furniture since January 2004. As part of the finance department, she is responsible for monitoring the budgets, salaries, expenses, requisitions and everything else in between.

Vicky Ozia Eyokia

Finance Assistant - Vicky joined RLP in October 2005, initially as a volunteer and later joined the staff as a full-time receptionist. She is responsible for running the reception desk including setting up appointments, and coordinating all the hectic schedules of the legal officers, counsellors and the director. Vicky is one of the most important members of our staff.

Sumayah Nabawanuka

Front Desk Administrator - Sumayah is the Front Office Administrator for Refugee Law Project. She Joined in February 2010 and is responsible for managing the front office desk including client care, setting up appointments and coordinating all the hectic schedules of the Legal officers, Counselors and the Director. Sumayah will avail you with first hand information regarding RLP.

Stephen Jjuuko

Logistician - Stephen joined RLP in July 2006 and has since taken part in several field trips all over the country.

Fred Ssekandi

Logistician - Affectionately known as "Speaker", Fred joined us in January 2005 when RLP expanded its vehicle fleet. He has since taken part in field trips to Adjumani, Apac, Lira, Arua, and Pader. His experience has proven invaluable in traversing some tricky areas, particularly Apac in the rainy season, or those barely maintained roads in Pader.

Leonard Mukiibi

Office Assistant - Mukiibi has served RLP since the beginning as a volunteer in 2000, and joined full-time in November 2001. He has been invaluable in providing logistic support to all the departments, as well as ensuring the maintenance and safe-keeping of office equipment, generators, and anything that needs repair.

Mboode Willy

Security Officer - Willy joined RLP in July 2007 as a security guard. He heads the security unit and is responsible for protecting of RLP premises and property against intrusion and theft.

Education & Training

Winifred Agabo

Senior Education & Training Officer - Winnie was appointed head of the Education & Training department in 2000. Since then she has organised and taught courses on Refugee Law, Human Rights and other related issues concerning forced displacement. She has also conducted extensive field research in West Nile and has recently completed her MA in Forced Migration at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.

Elvis Wanume

E.F.A. Volunteer Instructor - Elvis joined the department in Sept. 2007 and has been very instrumental in the establishment and management of the English for Adults Literacy programme for refugees. His duties involve teaching English & entrepreneurship skills, preparing teaching materials, coordinating distance learning with Respect University, and coordinating with community based organizations and non-governmental organisatons that offer vocational training.

Robert Egwalu

FAL Trainer Volunteer - Robert holds a Post Graduate Diploma in project planning & management from UMI,a diploma in youth in development from MUK and bachelors degree in adult and community education from KYU. He joined RLP in July 2009 and specifically involved in training learners in the English for Adults program.

Rita Nammembwa

Intern - Rita Joined the department in June 2008 and is actively involved in the English for Adults Literacy programme for refugees.

Kulihoshi Musikami Luc Pecos

E.F.A. Volunteer Instructor - Kulihoshi joined the department in May 2009 and has been very instrumental in the teaching of English For Adults program for refugees. His duties involve teaching the "Speak your Rights Curriculum".

Information and Communications

Moses Alfred Nsubuga

I.C.T. Officer - Moses joined RLP in March 2005 as a volunteer in the Information Center, but was later confirmed Information Officer in January 2006. Currently, he is the I.T. Officer running the Information Center as well as all I.T. related issues at RLP.

Mathias Nyanzi

I.T. Supervisor - Mathias joined RLP in October 2007 as part time web developer & I.T. support volunteer under the Beyond Juba Project. He became a full time staff as I.T. Assistant in 2008 and currently serving as I.T. Supervisor in the ICT unit. He has been vital in the technical design and development of a series of websites including the Refugee Law Project website (refugeelawproject.org), the Beyond Juba Project website(beyondjuba.org), Karamoja - Changing the Lens website(_) and The Civil Society Coalition website(ugandans4rights.org).

Legal & Psychosocial Department

Kenechukwu C. Esom

Head- Legal Aid and Psychosocial Dept. - Kene is a Barrister-at-Law and holds a Master of Law [LL.M] degree in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the University of Pretoria. He joined the RLP in September 2007 as a Legal Officer and was appointed as Head of Legal Aid and Psychosocial Department in January 2010. He oversees the Department's programmes and specifically coordinates the Child Rights and Protection Programme and the Community Interpretation Programme.

Saphina Nakulima

Legal Officer - saphina is an advocate of the High court of Uganda. She joined RLP in 2008 as an intern on the DANIDA internship programme for six months and later become a Legal Officer in January 2009. She specifically co-ordinates the Anti-Torture programme and the activities of the Legal Aid Service Providers Network(LASPNET)

Godwin Mindrea Buwa

Legal Officer - Currently our longest serving legal officer, Godwin came to RLP in September 2002. He has been actively involved in representing refugees all over the country, sometimes going as far afield as Arua.

Eunice Owiny

Psychosocial Counseling Advisor - Eunice joined us when we expanded the Legal Aid department to include counselling services in April 2005. Together with her volunteers, Eunice is responsible for giving psychosocial support to refugees, visiting and monitoring those with long term problems and coordinating health care services available to refugees in Kampala. She has also been an integral member of the research and legal aid teams that have visited the field to provide on site counselling in the refugee settlements.

Bernadette Iyodu

Legal Officer - Bernadette joined RLP from the private sector in January 2006, but had previously interned with us in 2003, and found one of the motivating factors for coming was her experience at the RLP. She has since been heavily involved in cases for refugees and asylum seekers, as well as visiting Rhino Camp in Arua as part of a research team. She is currently on leave pursuing her masters degree in South Africa.

Atona Stanley

Volunteer, Legal Officer - Atona joined the RLP in 2009 as a legal volunteer and is involved in the Access to Justice Programme that embodies three thematic areas: Detention, Domestic Relations and Tenancy.
Objective: Providing legal aid to the indigents and vulnerable persons.

David Agoya

Psychosocial Volunteer - David joined the counseling team in July 2008 as an intern from Kyambogo University and has stayed on as a volunteer. He is actively involved in providing psycho-social and psychological counseling to clients as well as making follow up home visits to clients' homes.

Christine Mbawa

Psychosocial Volunteer - Christine joined the Counselling team in March 2008 and has been greatly involved in the day to day counselling of clients as well as conducting information sessions for refugees.

Charity Ahumuza

Volunteer - Legal Officer - Charity holds a post graduate Diploma in Legal practice Bar course and a Bachelors Degree in Law MUK. She joined RLP as a volunteer lawyer in 2010. she is specifically involved in legal representation, intake process and providing legal advice.

Ataitom Berna

Volunteer - Legal Officer - Berna holds a bachelor's degree in Law from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. She's been at RLP since March 2010 and is actively involved in the Client intake process.

Arnold Kwesiga

Intake Volunteer - Arnold joined the RLP in January 2010. He is involved in the in-take process of all RLP clients and helps in general client assessments and taking of testimonies. He holds a great passion for protection and implementation of human rights and the prevalence of constitutionalism. Arnold is currently pursuing his Law degree from Makerere University.

Research & Advocacy

Angella N. Kasule

Acting Head of Research & Advocacy - Angella's background is Journalism, public Relations and Communications practice. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication from Makerere University and a Masters Degree in Global Journalism from Orebro University in Sweden.

Moses Chrispus Okello

Senoir Research & Advocacy Advisor(Former Head of Research & Advocacy Dept) - Moses first joined the RLP as a volunteer in 2000-2001. After completing his Master's in International Human Rights Law and post Graduate Diploma in Forced Migration Refugee Studies at the American University in Cairo (AUC), he returned to the RLP as a Research & Advocacy Officer in January 2005 and is currently the Head of Research and Advocacy Department. He has conducted research across many regions of Uganda and has contributed to a number of RLP publications. In addition Moses has contributed book chapters as well as published in internationally acclaimed peer reviewed journals. Moses has also recently been requested to join the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Transitional Justice. Moses' research interests include conflict analysis, forced migration, transitional justice and international human rights law more broadly.

Patrick Otim

Data Management Officer - Patrick joined the RLP in October 2006 specifically to handle the research data entry activities in the department. He is also involved in interactive media monitoring, and also part of a team conducting a survey "Local Integration of Refugee and the Host in Uganda" which is funded by the Witswatersrand University.

Solomon Luzinda

Volunteer - Video Advocacy - Solomon Joined RLP as a Video Advocacy Volunteer in March 2010. He holds a Higher Education Diploma in Digital Media and a City & Guilds Diploma in Video Production Techniques both attained form Lambeth College in UK. He also hold a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication.
