Institute for African transitional Justice (IATJ).

The Refugee Law Project (RLP) in collaboration with the African Transitional Justice Research Network (ATJRN), and the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) established an Institute for African Transitional Justice (IATJ) in May 2010. The Institute's mandate is to conduct an annual week-long residential course on transitional justice.

The inaugural class was held in November 2010 in Kampala, Uganda. The courses consisted of a series of interactive lectures, workshops, and round table discussions focusing on the theme "Addressing transitional Justice in the Context of African Challenges".

The IATJ classes offer a unique opportunity to explore and deepen comprehension of the ever changing boundaries of transitional justice as they relate to post-colonial and post-conflict societies in Africa.

The Institute targets researchers, graduate students, policy-makers, practitioners, and humanitarian actors; both international and national, who are working in the field of transitional justice, with research institutions, universities, civil society organisations, NGOs, International NGOs, regional organisations, foreign missions and the United Nations' Agencies.
